Pierce Fundraising

These questions and answers are in response to the Spring 2006 fundraising survey:

Q. How can we change the prizes from the magazine drive, or eliminate them totally?
A. The magazine drive is run by the 7th and 8th grades for 1 month in the Winter and generates about $7,000 per year. This is a lot of work from those kids, but generates enough money that those grades don't ask the PTO for much money for their NYC field trip and other expenses.
Q. How do I sign up for the school tours?
A. You are not alone about the confusing layout. New, old and prospective families are invited to set up a tour of the building to see the non-conventional layout and how things work in an open space. Contact Cherie Gaehde or Julie Leitman.
Q. How much money do these events raise for Pierce?
A. In 2006, the following amounts were raised:
  • Auction $30,000
  • Annual Fundraising letter $11,600
  • Magazine drive $7,000
  • Gift wrap $4,600
  • Pierce apparel $5,600 (2 years)
  • Book fair $3,400
  • Directory $900
  • Boxtops $300 for PTO (plus $300 for PSED)
  • Picnic $375
Q. How do I sign up for PiercePost?
A. Send email to piercepost-subscribe@topica.com. If there are any problems please contact Ellen Ball
Q. Why can't we combine the Broadsheet, PiercePost and Pierce website?
A. We are working to improve the website, so that next year the Broadsheets will be included on the web. However here are some reasons for these various methods of communications: not everyone has access to a computer and email (or is comfortable with this), not all students bring home the Broadsheets (this is especially true for older children), some children have more than one household, older students (4th grade and up) only have Thursday folders.
Q. What website?
A. The website is greatly improved from last year, and will be get even better over the summer. Check is out...www.pierceschoolbrookline.org.
Q. UNICEF?
A. The first grade teachers are led by Mr David Weinstein in the UNICEF drive during Halloween. This year raised about $1000 for UNICEF and the monies went to Katrina victims and the usual wonderful UNICEF causes in the world.
Q. Shattuck Shelter?
A. The third grade teachers and students collect items for Shattuck Shelter in December. Items are donated from all of Pierce -- shampoo, toothpaste, soaps, etc.
