Dear Families and Friends of Pierce,
We are excited to announce the third annual Pierce School Read-a-Thon! The purpose of the Read-a-Thon is to get our students excited about reading while at the same time raising important funds for the PTO that directly support our teachers, students and Library!
Here are important details about the Read-a-Thon:
Attached is your child’s Pledge Sheet and Reading Log. Extra copies and envelopes for students to collect donations will be available in the office, Library or ask your child’s teacher.
Please keep in mind the following dates:
Today – Start collecting pledges!
Help your child ask people you know to sponsor your child by pledging a donation for each minute your child reads during the week of January 14th to January 21st. Let them know all funds raised will go directly towards supporting Pierce students and teachers.
January 14th – January 21st – READ, READ, READ! (Students can continue to collect pledges throughout the week). Don’t forget to use the reading log to record the number of minutes read each day. And don’t forget that this year you can ask friends and relatives that do not live nearby because they can donate online!
January 22nd – January 28th – Collect pledge money from your sponsors!
January 29th – Return Read-a-Thon packet and donations.
We are excited to announce the third annual Pierce School Read-a-Thon! The purpose of the Read-a-Thon is to get our students excited about reading while at the same time raising important funds for the PTO that directly support our teachers, students and Library!
Here are important details about the Read-a-Thon:
- Students will set their own goals and read as much as they like, January 14nd through January 21st (January 21st is MLK Day so students get an extra full day to read!!).
- All reading counts whether the student reads independently or someone reads to them. A parent, or another adult, should initial each entry on the log form.
- Students will raise money by collecting pledges from family and friends (suggested pledge amount is $0.05 - $0.10 per minute read). Have sponsors click the “donate now” button on www.pierceschoolbrookline.org. Once connected to PayPal use the drop-down arrow and select “Read-a-Thon.” After the donation amount is entered sponsors will have the ability to “add a note” before the donation is submitted. Ask your sponsor to add a students name and class in this space.
- Everyone that participates will receive a prize, and additional prizes will be awarded to classes and students that log the most number of minutes read!
